If you purchased a membership in the Ancestry® app (through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon), you'll need to cancel your membership through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon .

After canceling, check the email address associated with your Ancestry account for a cancellation confirmation.

Canceling a membership or free trial

Go to Account settings

In Account settings, go to the Membership section > select Cancel membership or Cancel free trial > follow the steps until you see confirmation that you've canceled.

If there's no Cancel membership link on your Account settings page, try signing out, then signing back in. If that doesn't work, contact us to find the account you're being billed on.

Pausing and refunds

To delay your renewal for up to two months, after selecting the Cancel membership link, select Pause Membership > Continue > 1 month or 2 months > Pause.

Unless you're within the refund window (see "2. Subscription Cancellations and Refunds" in Ancestry Renewal and Cancellation Terms ), your membership will end at the end of its current term. You can find the Renews on date on your Account settings page.

Troubleshooting

How do I prevent automatic renewal?

Except for gift memberships, all memberships renew automatically unless they're canceled. If you cancel during the refund period , your membership will end immediately. If you cancel outside of the refund period, your membership will end at the end of your current period.

I was billed after canceling. What happened?

You likely have a duplicate Ancestry account. Please contact us so we can find the other account for you.

Can I get a refund?

Check out our refund policy .

I see a blank page when trying to cancel.

Disable your ad blocker or cancel using an incognito tab or window in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

How do I cancel a free trial?

Follow the same steps above. If you don't want to continue with a paid membership, cancel before your trial ends to avoid being billed.

What happens after cancellation?

You'll still have a free registered guest account with access to many resources on the site.

What if I want to delete my account entirely?

If you delete your Ancestry® account , all information (family trees, records, photos, DNA results) will be permanently deleted. You can cancel your membership without deleting your account.
